The Groom's Speech
<I have changed the names to keep them hidden from misuse>

Wedding Speech Version 1.6

After much research on Wedding speeches, reading many books, looking on the web, only to find myself 10 minutes later looking at the newest games releases, I came to a conclusion that most wedding speeches are similar, as a lot is expected to be said, and me being me has forgotten most of it, but I did make a note of this bit.

It is said that a great speech has a good beginning, a good ending, and most importantly, the two are as close together as possible.
Well tough luck!

GET NEXT BIT OF PAPER IN POCKET

(Unfold notes, pause and smile at all tables.)

So instead I have decided to do a speech which feels right to me, I am not sure if the speech is a normal wedding speech, or just me rabbitting on like I normally do.  But I have the advantage this time, you all have to listen.

1st of all, today is a day to remember good times from the past, but not just mine or Julie’s, no today is a day full of memories, lots of wonderful new ones, and hopefully some fabulous old ones as well.  Today many of my memories evolve round my dad, along with several other members of my family who cant be here today in body, but in spirit they will be here always by our sides.  Not just from my family, but from all of our families.  So please join me in a toast to our absent family members who can no longer be here to share these memories.

<Raise glass to dad and family.>

Now on with the new memories of today, like most speeches there will be many thank yous, and maybe the odd really bad joke.

1st of all if you will all quickly smile? As I want to remember this moment for the rest of my life <get video camera out and film everyone with a quick pan>  after all this is probably the only time I get to talk, you all listen and I don’t get the rare illness of Foot in Mouth.  Ok ok tough crowd, good luck Best Man. <Look at Best Man with a worried look>

Today I have a Beautiful new wife, she is everything I could wish for and more.

With all my heart I love her and will continue to do so in the times ahead.  Also I have joined a wonderful new family.

Most couples on their wedding day describe it as the happiest day of their lives. That worries me because it implies that as from today we wont have as much fun as we have are having today, and we still have our 2 weeks in Vegas and Hawaii to look forward to, and every day waking up to see you,<Look at wife> my wife.  So based on this, I would say that today is a wonderful day and the beginning of a beautiful new chapter in our lives.

On to the boring thank yous..

Brides Mummy and Brides Daddy have accepted me into there family as my mum has welcomed Suede to ours.

Years ago I could never imagine myself having anyone else I could call dad, for obvious reasons, but when I look at Alan, though he is so different from my dad, all the great qualities are there, loving, caring, wanting the best for the ones they care for, doing anything he can to help others.  Both these great men share these qualities, and I am proud to call both these men Dad.

Brides Mummy has a heart of gold, she sees all that is good in people (well OK the good in me).

I feel like I have known her all my life, and she has always been there for me, and she washes my white shirt, as me and Julie just do black washes.

For those gifts we thank the two of you, as all those little things you do for us, they mean so much to both me and Julie.

I must also thank Brides Daddy and Brides Mummy for bringing up such a lovely daughter. But also due to the number of phone calls between Suede and Brides Mummy. The phone company would also like to thank you both.

Looking down the line I see a few more people who deserve a mention, my best man, who has helped me get to this day in one piece, and relatively sane, (no comment) I know it has been nerve racking for you, but the speeches are almost over now, no more panicking, enjoy the rest of today. We have a gift for you, these 2 droids, both are hard working and will serve you well….  Oops sorry, must stop quoting from films. Please my friend take these gifts as a symbol of our friendship.  <GIFT>

Then there is Judas, our Bridesmaid, what a wonderful job she has done today I mean standing around, looking pretty, tough job!  But she does it very well, and she has been by Suede and my sides through out our wedding plans, and helped in any way she could. For many years she has been a great friend to Suede, and though I have never admitted it.  ESPECIALLY in public before, she has also been a great friend to me, and one I truly value.  However I have no idea when she stopped being Suede’s friend to being our friend. For some reason we also have a gift for you.  OK OK Judas you win, thank you for being a wonderful friend.  No more nice comments this year OK!!  <PAUSE>   You owe me big time.  <GIFT>

Then we have Darth Han, A big special thanks to you for reading that beautiful poem out earlier, many of you may not realise this, but Darth Han wrote that poem especially for me and Suede, and I know it caused her many nightmares, after all it was about us.

So Darth Han we also got you a little something.

<GIFT>

Almost finally, a huge thanks to my mum, for always being there for me, and now she is there for Julie as well. For bringing me up and preparing me to face life and it’s endless possibilities.  Thank you for buying our cake ( the sponge bit is mine) I am sure you will all agree it is wonderful and looks really fabulous.

Now for both our Mums, we have these. <FLOWERS>

The last thanks go to all of you, firstly for all sharing this day with us it means so much to us both, and secondly for all the wonderful gifts you have bought for us. Just by ourselves the day would be special, like each day we spend together, but with you all here, this makes this day more than we could have dreamed of,  However I will leave you with a quote I once heard someone say …..with a little change made by me. ‘You can measure a person by the company they keep’. Looking around today, I am sure you will agree the company we keep is at worst questionable (Grin) and at best……Damn amazing, Thank you all.

Now you may all get drunk so you don’t remember our first dance later.
